In the spring of 2009 the artists Thomas Liljenberg and Bo Samuelsson developed a proposal for the design of a glass wall in Kista Galleria. The proposal, entitled Street Corner Talking, is a 16 x 4.5 meter large light- and text-based piece of art. The glass wall is situated in the newly built Kista Galleria, in the corner facing Jan Stenbecks torg (formerly Torsnästorget).
INTERPLAY BETWEEN TEXT AND LIGHT
Visually Street Corner Talking (SCT) is based on the interplay between text and light. The glass wall facing the square is covered with a replaceable film with cut out text. In the space between the glass surface and the inner wall is an installation of 300 LED lights creating a shifting play of lights where the text appears shining in different colors. The texts and the film are continually updated, thereby creating a constantly current and ongoing work.

IN DIALOGUE WITH THE SITE
The process surrounding the production of the texts and connecting other players to the work is a central part of SCT’s artistic, theoretical and social motif. Participants in workshops are recruited through the network built up within KAC, between associations, institutions, schools, businesses, artists and residents. The title Street Corner Talking refers to the work as such an ongoing interactive discussion – but also to its actual location in the corner of Kista Galleria facing out toward Jan Stenbecks Torg. A location presently involved in a dynamic urban development process which includes the formation of centers, infrastructure, businesses and residence.

WALL JOURNAL AND ARTIST’S BOOK
Graphically SCT refers to the iconography of the city and the importance of text and light in public space, in advertising, signs and information. There are also references to wall journal and the concept of artists’ books. A meaning that is strengthened by emphasizing the work’s character as “publication” and the artists’ role as editors. The aim is to create a public artwork that blends into the context and is experienced as a natural part of the Galleria and the square, while at the same time the aesthetic and artistic contents expand, deepen and reflect this context and the glass wall’s importance as a surface for projections between private and public space.
ADMINISTRATION
SCT is administrated by KAC. Associated with the project is a reference group with representatives from Kista Galleria, sponsors, institutions, contributors, businesses and residents. The reference group is advisory in relation to the project. The editors of SCT are Thomas Liljenberg and Bo Samuelsson.
INAUGURATION
The inauguration of Street Corner Talking will take place in November 23, 2009.
